Camping in a 6×12 Converted Cargo Camper

Check out how we go camping in a 6x12 converted cargo camper.

When Rick retired from his carpentry career, he retired his cargo trailer and converted the cargo trailer into a lovely little camper.

Only 60 square feet of living space inside

We have a 2 foot garage area in the back, which we use for storage, and outdoor kitchen and it even has an outdoor shower. But inside is only 60 square feet of living space. When the couch is opened up into a bed, there is only about feet of floor space. So it is VERY TINY - but we manage.

Our Campsite Set Up

This is our camping set up in remote locations, where there is no bathhouse or hookups. We purchased walls for our instant canopy and this helps turn the canopy into another room so we have extra space.

A few of our interesting trips camping in a 6x12 converted cargo camper

We camped many places, but here a few of our more interesting trips.

Dry camping in the Winter - it was 12 Degrees!

One of our first trips was in the winter. We camped in Northern NJ at a campground that was open for dry camping only. We did have electric though and used a space heater to keep warm. It was 12 degrees outside and 72 in the camper!

Florida Road Trip

Brrr...it was too cold in New Jersey, so in March we took a road trip to sunny Florida.

Camping in our 6x12 Conveted Cargo Camping in the Keys - Florida

This was our favorite roadtrip and we really enjoyed this campground in the Keys.

Cargo Camping in the Everglades

Years ago I never would have imagined camping in the Everglades - YIKES! But the Everglades is actually a beautiful place.

Kettle Creek State Park - The Pennsylvania Wilds

I was amazed at the awesome beauty of this wilderness. I was even more amazed that a place so remote and wild was only about 200 miles away from our home.

Camping on the beach - Assateaque MD

Another place we really enjoyed was Assateaque and we camped their twice - once at the National Park - right on the beach. It was beautiful but extremely hot and we had to lug all of our gear to the campsite from the parking lot. When we camped at the State campground , we weren't right on the beach but the positive was that we could park right at our campsite.

Visiting Boldt Castle and Cargo Camping in the Thousand Islands NY

I've never been to upstate New York, and I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of this state. So many islands, mountains, and waterfalls - it was breathtaking and Boldt Castle was the highlight of the trip.

We used to camp without a camper

Backpacking overnight on the Appalachian Trail

Rick had done this before, but I hadn't and this was something on my bucket list that I always wanted to do. I will admit that I was scared and had to work up some courage to do this!

Jackery New Arrivals

Boat into our campsite at Round Valley Reservoir

Round Valley Reservoir is sometimes referred to the Bermuda Triangle of New Jersey. This manmade reservoir used to be a town. It is said that some remnants of the town still rest in thsee waters. At it deepest part, this reservoir is 180 ft deep. Windy conditions can cause large waves to unsuspecting boaters. People have drowned here and supposedly there are 7 bodies that have never been recovered in this body of water.
